The food industry is a very varied sector which starts with the transformation of raw materials, then moves on to preparing and cooking food and finally to conserving and packaging processes, like deep-freezing and preserving in a protective atmosphere.
The fields of application for pressfitting can be varied from the fish industry, ice-cream production, distilleries for alcohol and spirits, as well as preservation and aesthetic improvement processes for ready-cooked and ready to cook meats.

Press fitting is particularly suitable for drinking water systems. However it cannot be used to convey other types of food liquids. They are widely used in process fluids systems in the food industry.
Production and preparation of food requires several lines to transport fluids such as chilled water, glycol and some gases like nitrogen and carbon dioxide for food preservation.
The majority of these fluids can be transported inside plants made with AISI 316L stainless steel pressfitting systems, and there are in fact many benefits of their use in this field.

A brief overview of food industries
About half of the food products that reach our tables are preserved using temperature reduction processes (as in the case of "fresh" products) and the other half is transformed using industrial processes.
The food industry includes both processing raw materials into foods as well as the sector for the preparation of the latter to make them available to consumers: cooking, preserving at different temperatures, deep-freezing and packaging (as well as in a protective atmosphere).

Types of systems that can be made using pressfitting in the food industry
As we have already seen, in the food industry there are various types of processes that require the supply of fluids. From simple hot water to cook food right up to gas to preserve in a "special" atmosphere. Here are a few examples of lines for industrial fluids:
- Steam for sterilisation;
- glycol for distillation processes;
- temperate water to wash fruit and vegetables;
- chilled water for fruit calibration systems, i.e. sorting according to the size of the fruit;
- Gas to preserve food in a protective atmosphere such as nitrogen and carbon dioxide.

The benefits of steel pressfittings for piping systems in the food industry
Thanks to the extremely high level of hygiene ensured by AISI 316L stainless steel, certified by several European and international bodies like the "DVGW W 270" and compliant with ministerial decree "DM 174/2004", Eurotubi pressfittings ensure maximum suitability for use in environments with the presence of food destined for human consumption.

Long life and solidity of the steel: an industrial piping system made of steel can remain in service for several decades, without the need for major maintenance while keeping its qualitative characteristics unchanged over time.
Quick installation: the "pressfitting" cold joining technique can save more than half the time compared to more "classic" solutions. This way the systems can start working in a shorter period of time.
No welding: in industrial environments with the presence of highly flammable materials like gas and chemical products, the ability to use a system like pressfitting that does not use open flames is undoubtedly an advantage in terms of fire prevention.
Finally, no solvents or other chemical substances are used to assemble the pressfittings, all that is necessary is an electrical pressing tool, this way we do not run the risk of contaminating any food present on site.
We have seen how the AISI 316L stainless steel pressfitting system offers features that means it can be used effectively in the food industry: extremely high hygiene standards, the quality and resistance of the materials as well as its ease of use.
