When discussing post-war Italian Design, one of the first names that definitely comes to mind is Achille Castiglioni. Many of the design objects that arose from his spontaneous creativity have a particular history and are linked to very special places.
Such is the case of the "Spluga" stool designed in 1960 (by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni) expressly for furnishing the "Splugen Brau" bar/restaurant in Milan. The restaurant was inspired by the Art Nouveau style combined with a study of shapes, created for the maximum comfort of its patrons. Entirely designed by the Castiglioni brothers, it was dismantled in the eighties.
In the design of the Spluga seat with its high back/clothes hanger that also serves as protection from passing, we find form serving function.

In 2011 the Achille Castiglioni Foundation was created by Achille's sons: Giovanna and Carlo. The purpose of the foundation is to archive, digitalize, and show new design talents all of the material Achille produced during his over 60 years of activity.

A long experience in tube bending
Bends with large radii are particularly difficult to obtain. They require a good amount of technical expertise, as well as many years of experience on the operator's part.

A small series production of these seats was delivered to the "Achille Castiglioni Foundation" for a very special future project...
